Ancients of Khortytsya
From the new book by Walter William Melnyk and James Stanley Melnyk: Ukraina, Songs of a Beloved Land. Available soon on CreateSpace.com and Amazon.com
Ancients of Khortytsya
Cold stone standing watch
o’er Dnipro’s narrowing way;
once guardians of rapids
where mighty waters played.
Now captives of museums,
in ordered rank they stay,
while Kodak bearing Christians
ignore their ancient sway.

I'm so enjoying your poetry, Uncle Jim! Of course I've ready things Dad has written, but don't think I ever realized you are a poet, too! I love how the juxtapositions in this poem are also present in your next entry about the church beyond the McDonalds...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen! That's high praise, indeed, from someone with your gift for writing.
